Fabric Spotlight: Northiam

We love a bit of pattern at Arlo & Jacob, and there’s one in particular that’s been hopping off the shelves lately. Zinc Textiles’ Northiam is a knock-out choice for everything from compact footstools to sprawling sofas. The scale of the pattern makes it wonderfully versatile, as it shows up well on furniture of any size. Plus, it’s got the upscale look of a designer fabric and the richly textured feel to match. What’s not to like?

Northiam is a bold, yet serene fabric that comes in soothing, nature-inspired colours. The Olive colourway combines threads of forest green and pistachio with flecks of ivory white. The overall effect is a beautiful combination of the three hues, adding further depth to designs like our Anderson footstool.

The Spice colourway is toasty and warming. Its terracotta tones intertwine with hints of camel and winter white, producing a soft yet striking effect. Make the most of it on a generously proportioned sofa like our Cartwright. Or you can work it into your scheme as a smaller pop of personality in the form of the Cartwright snuggler. We also love it on our Henry design! The pinch-pulled button back brings a whole new dimension to the fabric, animating each of the abstract lines as they zig and zag across the surface.

Northiam also works wonders on throw cushions, bringing an energetic boost to more quietly upholstered furniture. Though, if you’re set on going big and covering a whole sofa with this poppy pattern, it works best to combine it with solidly coloured accent pieces. Go for throw cushions upholstered in Oat coloured Chunky Weave, for example. It’s a tried-and-true combo with a fresh yet cosy feel that never misses!
