Colour & Wellbeing

Colour is a key ingredient in every piece of Arlo furniture. Whether you’re drawn to a warm, sandy neutral or a bold statement blue, we’re committed to helping you get the shade just right. We offer endless fabrics, from House staples which are easy on the wallet to luxurious designer weaves. That makes it extra fun to dive into colour options with our customers, often stumbling upon inspiration as we collaborate with you on designing beautifully bespoke furniture. Tash is an indispensable source of wisdom in this department, having come to us by way of Farrow & Ball. She’s got a finely tuned eye for colour and the knowledge to back her choices up. We connected with her to hear a bit more on how you can use colour to create a sense of calm and wellbeing in your home. Read on for her top tips…

Can you give us a brief intro to what you do at Arlo & Jacob?

Tash Monk Arlo & JacobHello, I’m Tash! I’m the Brand Sales Team Leader and Marlow Showroom Manager. I’m very lucky because I’m surrounded by wonderful people and have an amazing team. My days are never the same. I can be giving design consultations to customers, where I advise on fabric choices based on their space; training new members of the Arlo family, which helps build a strong team culture; and supporting my amazing team in the Marlow Showroom!

What’s your philosophy when it comes to selecting colours for an interior?

I like to start by understanding a room’s purpose and how customers want to feel in the room. Colour can really help create a mood and atmosphere for an interior.

How do you see the relationship between colour and wellbeing?

Colour can have a significant impact on how we feel. Warm neutral colours are great for creating a safe or cosy feel to a room. Greens can be used to create a calming and relaxed effect. And rich earthy reds are fantastic for creating a stimulating environment. The two are closely connected.

Which colours do you feel are particularly potent when it comes to shifting your mood and creating a calming atmosphere?

Subtle and subdued colours like sage greens and tranquil blues are wonderful colours for creating a calming atmosphere. Neutral colours are also great when creating a harmonious palette.

Which is your favourite Arlo House fabric and why?

That’s like asking which is my favourite child! I love our House Weaves in all their colourways, but Pebble and Airforce are my favs at the moment. They look beautiful upholstered and work as a great neutral. You can layer other textures and colours with them and it’s super effective. I also love Lupine, Salt and Caprini.
