Arlo & Design Fabric Edit: Tactile Allure

If you’ve had the chance to visit us lately, you’ll have noticed an invigorated display of fabrics cropping up alongside our new Arlo & Design studio concept. Our senior design team has been hard at work teasing out key trends on the horizon, working up dedicated fabric edits for each one. The aim is to help you explore the hundreds of fabrics on offer from a more curated starting point. We love guiding the design process to ensure that each piece feels distinctly unique to you, while keeping in harmony with your existing interior scheme. We’re happy to jump in and offer suggestions on which fabrics will work best for your lifestyle, from family-friendly options to ultra-luxe designer textiles.

You’ll find a range of house staples and designer upholstery under the umbrella of the Tactile Allure fabric trend. This emerging move towards supremely textural fabrics starts with creating an earthy colour landscape as a backdrop. Neutral hues and a subtle nature-inspired palette set the stage for suave velvet surfaces and bobbly teddy bear textiles. Go for our house favourite, Benelux Bouclé to create a soft, Scandi-cool look. It works wonderfully well in the Dandelion colour way, keeping the visual affect fresh and light, while sumptuous and cosy to the touch.

Our Chunky Weave in Oat has a similarly soothing appearance, with an oh-so-soft mixture of cotton and linen. This fabric has got a raw look, with natural variations allowed to occur across the surface, creating looser, more textural areas tempered by more tightly woven, neater areas. The effect is wonderfully soft and natural, in look and feel.

To introduce a bolder visual quality to this tactile trend, go for a fabric like our Textured Tweed in the Aegean colourway. This lovely Italian fabric blends different materials with distinctive feels and colours to create a symphony of softness. There’s a cross-hatched quality to the look, which gives way to an intriguingly haptic, woven quality. The dominant colour is a deep, pelagic blue, which is then punctuated with threads of bright aquamarine and deep ochre to give the textile depth. It’s a wonderful way to play on the Tactile Allure trend while working bold yet natural colours into your home.
