Table Top: Cate St Hill
What a pleasure to be invited into the world of design expert and interior lover, Cate St Hill, who has shared her beautiful table top of sophisticated style. By day Cate is an architecture and design journalist, but in her spare time is an interiors enthusiast and home stylist, writing for her popular lifestyle blog, Cate St Hill. Cate’s unique coffee table gives grey hues and clean cut lines a warming and homely lift. From ultra cool design books to curious trinkets, each little touch creates that individual table top style we love.
My coffee table is always changing, but one thing that is always constant is the piles and piles of books and magazines. At the moment I've got the latest issue of one of my favourite magazines Kinfolk, it's the design issue so it's full of interesting articles on the way we live and how we use interior spaces.
I've also got two novels from my favourite publisher Persephone Books. Based in a pretty-as-a-picture shop in Bloomsbury, they republish neglected fiction and non-fiction by mid-twentieth century (mainly women) writers. Each is bound in a dove grey cover with a patterned end paper. Beautiful objects, and even better writing about wartime stories, domestic duties and class idiosyncrasies, you're guaranteed something just a little different from anything on the High Street.
There's also always a bunch of flowers or plant of some sort on the coffee table, as well as several candles to make the living room smell lovely and create a cosy atmosphere at night. I love going to antique markets and picking up odd bits and bobs, here I've got an old toothpaste pot my mum gave me a while ago - I love its elaborate font and how it was such an exquisite object for something so mundane as toothpaste.
