What Brits Want In Their Dream Homes

Dream Homes: What Does Britain Really Want?

As a nation, we love to admire other people’s homes - from flicking through beautifully aesthetic interiors in the latest home magazine, to watching a programme that takes you inside some of the most impressive celebrity homes.

But if you had the choice, what would your dream home look like and how much would you be willing to pay for it?

Arlo & Jacob conducted a survey asking 1,000 UK residents what their dream home would look like and what features they truly desired the most in each room. The results were then broken down, with the following graphics revealing Britain’s dream home:

Brits want the following features:

  • 42% of Brits want a kitchen island to socialise around
  • 37.5% would like big patio doors that open out onto a garden
  • Over 30% (32.3%) would like smart appliances such as a fridge, washing machine and dishwasher
  • Brits are coffee lovers - over 30% (30.8%) want a coffee machine
  • Clean, fresh and simplistic: Brits want white features throughout their kitchens

Brits want the following features:

  • Over half (51.2%) of Brits say their dream lounge would include a smart TV
  • Warmth is key: a big open fire and fireplace is dreamt of by 41% of UK residents
  • Corner sofas are the aspired soft furnishing in living rooms with nearly 40% (38.1%) surveyed wanting one
  • A view of the garden and natural sunlight is important in the living room - nearly 35% (34.1%) would like large folding doors out onto the garden in their living spaces

Over a quarter (25.7%) of Brits choose a simplistic white base for the lounge and opt for tones of grey and brown

Brits want the following features:

  • Brits are modest: Survey results reveal that 3 bedrooms are enough in their dream homes
  • Nearly 60% (55.2%) would love to have an en-suite attached to their master bedrooms
  • A dressing room and walk-in wardrobe is wished for by over 50% (50.6%) of people surveyed
  • Results show that we like to dine al fresco - over a quarter of people (34.4%) would like a balcony in their bedrooms
  • Results show that bedroom aesthetics need to be minimal and classy - white and grey with hints of blue and purple are the preferred colour choices

Brits want the following features:

  • Back gardens are important for Brits to relax in - over 40% (40.4%) dream of having one
  • Outdoor cooking areas and BBQ’s are important, especially in the summer months - nearly two fifths (37.2%) would like this in their dream home
  • Security is key: Nearly 30% (29.2%) revealed they would like a garage to secure their car and belongings in - not to mention the extra storage space
  • The survey revealed Brits would like a hot tub (27.2%), summer house (27%) and pool (25.3%) in their gardens
  • Overall, Brits are pretty modest and over a quarter (27.6%) would only like a semi-detached house
  • Results also showed that Brits are willing to pay a considerate, but not outrageous amount to afford their dream home - the majority surveyed didn’t want to pay any more then £400,000

What would your dream home look like and how much would you really be willing to pay for it?
