Interior Trends: Terrific Terrazzo

One of the emerging top interior trends for 2018 is the revival of terrazzo. Terrazzo is a mixture of off-cuts of stone materials like quartz and marble, which is mixed and set to form a smooth surface. It is mainly used for floors, but this versatile material can also be used for worktops, wall surfaces and bathrooms. Due to the composition, it comes in a range of colours and every pattern is different and unique; making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for an alternative and quirky look to their interiors. Take a look at some of our favourite ways you can incorporate this interesting material in your homes.

Terrazzo kitchens & bathrooms

Terrazzo is a colourful alternative to marble and looks spectacular when used on kitchen worktops. Pick a predominant colour from the material and use it to paint walls or cabinets: pick a lighter shade for an airy feel and choose a darker colour for a more dramatic look.

Take a look at this stunning bathroom. Terrazzo looks great with brass and copper taps and shower fittings, and also spectacular paired with matte black fixtures, making the look more modern and less traditional. What’s more, this is also a very easy material to keep clean as the large smooth surfaces can easily be wiped down, as opposed to tiles and grouted surfaces that can quickly collect dirt; ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.

Terrazzo accessories

With the multitude of colours on offer, you can opt for either bright and bold colours or subtle and muted neutral tones.

Where marble took centre stage in 2017, terrazzo has swooped in, and we’ll start to see this material on smaller objects too in 2018. It works exceptionally well as the base for lights and lamps, table tops, photo frames, and kitchen utensil, as well as larger architectural focal points like staircases.

We think you’ll have fun experimenting with all the ways you can try out terrazzo in your home.
