Interior Trends: Pantone Colour of the Year 2019, Living Coral

It’s a big day in the interiors industry when the colour experts at Pantone finally announce their Colour of the Year. This just in, Pantone have named Living Coral, described as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge’, as their Colour of the Year 2019.

Living Coral

A surprising and vivid colour, Living Coral emits joy and radiates happiness. It is a mood-enhancer if ever we saw one, and is an ideal choice for anyone wanting to create a positive, uplifting home atmosphere. As mindfulness becomes an increasingly popular daily practise for many of us, it’s clear why Pantone have opted for such an enlightening and warming colour, which they say ‘provide[s] comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.’

Despite its resemblance to many artificial things, Living Coral is a colour that can be found in our natural surroundings. It is, of course, most known for the ever-diminishing coral reefs, and will perhaps serve as a compelling reminder to protect what little remains of them. It is a mesmerising colour that welcomes and encourages joyfulness.

In Pantone’s words, Living Coral is ‘a reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life’, and as a result of this, ‘we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy.’

The Pantone Colour of the Year has been influencing interiors, fashion and design industries for twenty years, so we can expect to see plenty of this delightful Living Coral shade displayed on our accessories and home décor over the coming twelves months.

When we did the photo shoot for our striking Aragon sofa, we upholstered it in this Living Coral shade, and as you can see, this pop of playful pink really enlivens the space and draws the eye, while boosting your mood. Not just a vibrant colour, it can also create a soft, mellow atmosphere when partnered with calming tones, making it a versatile choice.

Pantone have created five colour palettes to inspire you with the various ways you can combine and partner Living Coral with complementary shades. The palettes are called; Focal Point, Shimmering Harmony, Sympatico, Trippy and Under the Sea.
