Our Favourite Power Couple
Some colours are made to drench a space, enveloping a room, wall to ceiling and everything in between. Others, however, find their power in combination. When looking to introduce tension and depth into an interior, it often works to consider contrasting hues which lay opposite one another on the colour wheel. Our favourite power couple of the moment is toasty ginger and powder blue. The opposition of warm and cool, bold and soft strikes a gorgeous balance. Whether it’s combining upholstery with accent pieces, or getting a bit braver with paint colours, we’ve got the tips you need to try this emerging trend for yourself.

The bold among us may wish to create a moody ambiance by dressing their sofa in a rich ginger fabric, head-to-toe. This certainly sets a darker, more grounded tone which can work beautifully in a cosy snug or even a home office. We particularly like the Touch fabric for this in its Rust colourway. The thick, velvety pile picks up on light, creating a dynamism that keeps some luminosity alive. You can approach this design route similarly to the former, simply inverting the colours. Think about adding throw cushions of that same Mineral-coloured Omega fabric by Linwood, as we have on the Felix sofa.

The next step is introducing a few feature accent pieces. It works well to go for the deeper ginger tone in this case to add depth alongside a dash of pattern. We love the look of our Archie footstool in Linwood’s Bibi, Ginger Biscuit, for example. Our Drum stool also creates the perfect opportunity for a pop of style. Dress it in a designer fabric like Step in the Conker colourway by Kirkby Design. The Titley and Marr Chequers in Paprika also works wonders. Combine a few pieces until you feel you’ve struck a balance - or book a free style consultation and we’ll do the footwork for you!
If you’re ready to commit to the bit, you’ll want to consider painting the walls, immersing yourself in the effect of this colour combination. Coat has created paint colour packs which are curated to work in perfect harmony if you’re looking to mix it up with some accent elements. Alternatively you can pick just one from the spectrum for a sleek, monochromatic paint job. To maximise the blue side of your scheme, we’d recommend checking out their Light Blue Pack. If you’re looking to create a more brooding atmosphere by playing up the ginger, have a look at their Bare Plaster Pack.
We love the dimension that can come from a bit of contrast. In this case, it’s all about colour, but we’d suggest considering a combination of textures and forms to shake up the scene as well. Our range of modern shapes and styles alongside endless House and designer fabrics offers the perfect playground!
