Best British
Beaches

With wet weather beginning to wane and the sun doing its best to peek through, we’re gearing up to get out of town and onto the beach. To make sure we maximise what’s left of the summer season, we’ve been investigating the very best beaches in the UK. We put out an Instagram pole and the people have spoken! Read on for a bit of insight into the most loved beaches in Britain…

Lyme Regis Beach, Dorset

Lyme Regis is a classic choice for urbanites looking to escape for the weekend. It’s been dubbed the “Pearl of Dorset” enjoying a prime spot on the county’s idyllic coastline. The Jurassic Coast is brimming not just with beauty but also archaeological intrigue, with no shortage of natural treasures being unearthed to this day. From pastel-hued beach huts, to pristine views, to paleontological wonders,
there’s no shortage of treasures to discover here!

Saltburn Beach, Yorkshire

Saltburn Beach is equal parts charm and drama. It’s flanked by sheer cliffs overlooking a stunning expanse of sea, peppered by beach huts and one particularly eye-catching pier. To get the full effect, ride the funicular up from the pier to catch some spectacular views. If you’re based in the north and looking for a weekend escape, this could be just the spot for you!

Luskentyre Beach, Outer Hebrides

Luskentyre Beach is regarded as one of the best beaches, not just in the UK, but in the world. It’s easy to see why, with its turquoise blue waters and chalk white sand. It sits on the Isle of Harris, one of the far-flung Outer Hebridean islands. Its remote location makes it the perfect spot to enjoy unbeatable views in relative peace and quiet. What could be better?

Cley Next the Sea, Norfolk

Cley Next the Sea is an unspoilt seaside village with a jewel of a beach. It’s got an old-timey charm typical of the Norfolk coast, surrounded by a sizable nature reserve. From the village to the beach, take the scenic route through Cley Marshes to enjoy some of the UK’s best birdwatching. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for seals, too, which are particularly entertaining local mascots!

Knoll Beach, Dorset

Knoll Beach sits on beautiful Studland Bay, making it a popular spot for weekend warriors. It’s a particularly well organised beach, with a cafe and a watersports centre where you can rent equipment from paddle boards to sailing dinghies. There’s even a Pig hotel at one end, making it an ideal spot to set up camp for more than just an afternoon!

Poppit Sands, Pembrokeshire

Wales has no shortage of gorgeous natural wonders, but Poppit Sands has got to be near the top of the list! It sits on Cardigan Bay, with absolutely stellar views of its crystalline waters. Maximise your day out by starting with a hike along the cliff’s edge then cool off with a dip in the sea. For bonus points, we’d recommend finishing with something refreshing from the beach cafe!
