At home with Sophie Derrick

Contemporary artist Sophie Derrick passion for colour extends to her family home. With an eclectic eye and love of texture and vintage, Sophie has transformed a sparse new build into a cosy haven. The young mother of two shared her vibrant interiors journey for the debut of At home with video series.

For some home buyers, the challenge of a new build is facing the reality that it's a blank canvas. Buying a new build is one thing, transforming it into a warm, cosy home is another task altogether. For creative force @sophiederrickart, it was a case of layering her family home with meaningful art, fabrics and vintage finds. Watching her styling story unfold on @not_a_boring_new_build, one quickly discovers each room was, in fact, years in the making. From her art collection to the unique textures, every space comes with its own story.

One way to make a bold statement with a blank canvas is through layers of colour. As a professional artist, Sophies knows how to use colour to create a focal point. Transforming her living room into a vibrant haven was a process of more-is-more. One of her first buys was our mid-century Earnshaw sofa in a bold blue accompanied by an incredible wall of art. Displayed amongst Sophie's own work are other paintings by the likes of Marcus Aitken and Alexander Randall.

Sophie is not scared to create different moods in one room. Her living room switches gears from the colourful to the calmer where our Henry armchair awaits covered in Cosy Linen, Seashell.

A quilt bought from a Marks and Spencer sample sale was the inspiration for the colour scheme of her daughter's room. Purchased long before her three-year-old's birth, Sophie used it as a reference and painted vintage furniture sourced from Facebook Marketplace in complementary hues.
