Home Décor Ideas: Deliciously Dark Kitchens
Is dark décor the new interior trend for kitchens in 2018?
We don’t shy away from colour at Arlo & Jacob, and while bright colours might be our forte, we’re totally crushing on dark décor right now. These moody hues are making us swoon, so we’re opting for these colour schemes for many of our photoshoots in 2018. It’s no surprise that these trendy tones have made their way into the Pinterest boards of many an interior lover, and with good reason.
These gorgeous dark colours dramatically change the mood and feel of a space, turning it into a cosy, intimate area for dining and entertaining. The kitchen is the ideal space to test out the dark décor trend. Since it’s probably the most used (and abused) area in your home, dark colours are practical as well as beautiful. Dark cabinets and walls will be more resistant to spills, scuffs and stains, keeping the space looking pristine for longer. As you can see, there’s a mix of dark walls paired with lighter cabinets or work surfaces, and some schemes chose to embrace dark surfaces in their entirety. The success of a dark room really depends on the lighting, so make sure you know what the paint looks like in daylight and artificial light before you commit to the walls.
Whether you like inky blues and navy, charcoal greys or almost black; we’ve picked out a few of our top paint colours to help you achieve the look. Go on, be brave! You have to be daring to embrace the dark décor trend, but trust us when we say you won’t be disappointed with the end result.
Top Tip: If you don’t have a steady hand, or aren’t patient with masking tape, it’s probably best to get the professional painters and decorators in. Dark colours look incredible when the lines and edges are neat. Also, remember to protect your floors and woodwork.
